I'm feeling ok with the speed at which we're going but I would like the other guy to move a little quicker...<br />
<br />
Anyway on Tuesday the group banded together and we filmed the live action. We had one prop which was a dignified, scrappy make-at-home space ship...on strings! The intent was to make it look as home made as possible and make it move with all the grace of Thunderbird2. (I remember it had a tendency to wobble a little on takeoff) Once we'd got all the footage I sifted through it on Premier to yoink out the best bits.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgxaqszIJuM6wXk32cjnYnzOgGMmC4Gu6lOY-FaXfbwSsji29XQRb1FA2Wk8q5aeoPbTFJ0GJmrP7A3tw8rSRNO2KHOkrHb5AWew0j1gnwOielwD67rGvk4ly7a3YSGA7OOC5lCF8EaDdCy/s1600/rod2.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgxaqszIJuM6wXk32cjnYnzOgGMmC4Gu6lOY-FaXfbwSsji29XQRb1FA2Wk8q5aeoPbTFJ0GJmrP7A3tw8rSRNO2KHOkrHb5AWew0j1gnwOielwD67rGvk4ly7a3YSGA7OOC5lCF8EaDdCy/s640/rod2.png" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<em>Look! It's Awesome!</em></div>
<br />
<br />
The good bit is we managed to get all the shots we wanted, exactly as we wanted...the bad bit is our lighting was a little poor (and as evidenced above the screen was kinda on the crinkly side) so, as the compositor I found my self having to rotoscope. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgWGyhes8neSrSaxtd54gMGqIzojBm_0HXF4NTH1Q91dr647W4r7XBCi_aEkjU5Iiai8wVM5TiYzAmp57cY3MyNhQJXalLVSkxBomHTQl2-IL3hTemKn_CfvFuIrLtJ0K8ScFREbOD770PF/s1600/rod3.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="287" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgWGyhes8neSrSaxtd54gMGqIzojBm_0HXF4NTH1Q91dr647W4r7XBCi_aEkjU5Iiai8wVM5TiYzAmp57cY3MyNhQJXalLVSkxBomHTQl2-IL3hTemKn_CfvFuIrLtJ0K8ScFREbOD770PF/s400/rod3.png" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I don't mind so much. It's quite a simple shape so I'm able to key a fair portion without having alter too much and its simplicity also makes it easier to spot any inconsistencies with the outline.<br />
Anyway, I've finished one shot so I'm eager to get at least three more done by the end of the week.<br />
Sweet.Little Hhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00788053275252239783noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2485330860967152466.post-14474206726608263622013-05-03T05:30:00.000-07:002013-05-03T05:30:57.686-07:00Next project...So seagulls and stuff out the way I'm now currently working on my next project: Read or Dead.<br />
Read or Dead is an alternative fashion brand which we have been tasked with creating a short for which captures all they're about. Oh and we had to incorporate a space baby (in astronaut kit of course) and also intertwine live action.<br />
<br />
Ok so the boring bit. Research showed their shop and sight had a vintage and improvised appeal, which incorporated the use of a lot of retro print (although the company was founded in 1982 their print is very characteristic of earlier decades) so after some debate and discussion the group and I decided our short would be styled as a vintage toon from around the 1950s to 70s. UPA animation would be the ideal match.<br />
<br />
This time I decided I would refrain from directing as I wanted to simply see how I would take to orientating the piece as a group. So far we have a finalised animatic, character designs and backgrounds are done and now I'm animating. I've done three shots in two days so I'm pretty pleased with the rate at which that's going but I haven't seen any animation from the other guy.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjV4Lqep1nVtDCRApb3U8LKkwNYS94BgvkDSKUSiDJepTsoVycvh_nc024vCxZRQfDZtEfa2QdUu4wzm0C2yk9EFVJ9ZmOkrf4FlFSfMu8VnwFMs-yNaW4T_q52-Ch5cw5c3VL8FMlr_ciq/s1600/rod1.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjV4Lqep1nVtDCRApb3U8LKkwNYS94BgvkDSKUSiDJepTsoVycvh_nc024vCxZRQfDZtEfa2QdUu4wzm0C2yk9EFVJ9ZmOkrf4FlFSfMu8VnwFMs-yNaW4T_q52-Ch5cw5c3VL8FMlr_ciq/s400/rod1.png" width="400" /></a></div>

<br />
Next week I'd really like to start merging some live action footage as the sooner I can start the more time I can place on it which should mean I can make it look ok...<br />
Little Hhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00788053275252239783noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2485330860967152466.post-74345638420958408952013-05-01T07:09:00.001-07:002013-05-01T07:09:13.526-07:00Chip is finished!I got a project in on time! Yay!<br />
<br />
I don't feel like doing much typing because I think I tend to say too much excess stuff plus I've come to the conclusion that a lot of the stuff I type ends up just sounding pretentious. So then, here is the finished short I directed and animated. This project went smoothly, just as Project cheese started, but this time things continued at a good pace and I made sure I was constantly aware of the group's progress and made sure there were frequent updates. Anyway here it is.<br />
<br />
<iframe allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="360" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/n2I7yW8uM7E?feature=player_detailpage" width="640"></iframe><br />
<br />
<br />
Over all I'm pretty pleased with it. The only part I'd like to change would be the moment their eyes meet and the background goes red. If I ever get round to tweaking it I would make their eyes "slide in" over the previous shot. I think it would simply look smoother.<br />
<br />
Anyway thats, that. Boom.Little Hhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00788053275252239783noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2485330860967152466.post-35064655370000306152013-03-12T12:33:00.001-07:002013-03-12T12:33:50.176-07:00Project ChipSo whats been going on with this project?<br />
Things have been going pretty nicely. I spent the last couple of weeks animating on Toon Boom and quite quickly too. My teem were very receptive and unlike the last project I directed no one integral to the project left the university. Good times.<br />
<br />
I decided to animate shots in order labelling them one to six. to make the composting stages quicker and it also meant it was difficult leaving shots out.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi4bWN4Y-oms6O-P80BKOiTiBSSDP3E6XWGgwAUZxQdOTUNdNDLGZ9YKWhySNX-onHuQAmNLtVfkIsDPNFLbDNvL44CnNDzHr5KYjMnwepiL8EkfaVRFS9wT8Yym5nj0dboffWR4sFAjCGx/s1600/pigeon2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi4bWN4Y-oms6O-P80BKOiTiBSSDP3E6XWGgwAUZxQdOTUNdNDLGZ9YKWhySNX-onHuQAmNLtVfkIsDPNFLbDNvL44CnNDzHr5KYjMnwepiL8EkfaVRFS9wT8Yym5nj0dboffWR4sFAjCGx/s400/pigeon2.jpg" width="346" /></a></div>
<div align="center">
</div>
<div align="center">
<em>Animating in order meant I had to start with a chip...splat...</em></div>
<div align="center">
</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
As I was doing all the animation I was able to get a better feel for the interface of Toon boom. I used it before but this second round meant I was able to add to what I'd already picked up plus I discovered that I'd got better. Huzzah! My first used was difficult since I couldn't even navigate with the tablet on screen, yet alone draw but it seems to no longer be an issue...I hope so anyway.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjOJ4QnfUFWuMuy_AnRLEaXSfWLRqhgiu8Ldyq0dfxMDQ_a3GMzJMoyh2x-TL8fgtHD_rKAMwbrTH5BlXXoGFjQaihUNHHhmFhsSf6uHXuptfWkHnxvo8EQ5yLn7cgbzdGp78omcWm_ti7Q/s1600/pigeon.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="331" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjOJ4QnfUFWuMuy_AnRLEaXSfWLRqhgiu8Ldyq0dfxMDQ_a3GMzJMoyh2x-TL8fgtHD_rKAMwbrTH5BlXXoGFjQaihUNHHhmFhsSf6uHXuptfWkHnxvo8EQ5yLn7cgbzdGp78omcWm_ti7Q/s400/pigeon.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<em>Run pigeon, run!</em></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Just realised I haven't spoken about the aesthetics. Ok then. I decided that there would be no background, just a line to mark out the ground. This was because a background would to nothing to compliment such a short piece plus I felt it would look distracting and might just look cluttered as there is a lot or quick motion. For the same reason the characters are simple.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Anyway right now we are up to date. I've animated all the shots, Dani has coloured them beautifully and Emily is in the process of sticking it all together.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Happy I am.</div>

My group met up the next day to discuss it. It remained more or lest the same as my original idea but Elisabeth came up with the great idea that the third gull should actually be a pigeon.<br />
So here is the revised version.<br />
<br />
<em>A chip lands with a sticky thud. Camera zooms out away and there are two seagulls stood equidistant, silent, either side. Camera snaps to their eyes ablaze with the same malevolent intent. Gong chimes. Suddenly they each let out a marshal arts style cry. They fly at each other. Each is convinced the chip shall be theirs! They clash. Then flail like cowardly school girls, both with heads back and eyes closed too afraid to get hurt. Suddenly. "Croooh" The gulls freeze. A pigeon pops up between them with the chip in his beek.. They all stare at one another. A wide angle shot. "Cooh!" The pigeon shoots off in a flail of loose feathers and chip grease. The gulls are still frozen. End.</em><br />
<br />
We had also all made an attempt at character designs too. As the short is only 15 seconds long and the comedy is slap stick I went with a simple thematic and in the end my designs were chosen. They were originally just ideas I doodled in a note book but they stuck.<br />

We had to create a 15 second short from scratch. By time the lecture was over I had an idea. It involved three seagulls and a chip, probably influenced by the fact that I live right by the sea.<br />
It went like this.<br />
<br />
<em>A chip lands with a sticky thud. Camera zooms out away and there are two seagulls stood equidistant, silent, either side. Camera snaps to their eyes ablaze with the same malevolent intent. Suddenly they each let out a marshal arts style cry. They fly at each other. Each is convinced the chip shall be theirs! They clash. </em><em>Then flail like cowardly school girls, both with heads back and eyes closed too afraid to get hurt. Over the top (preferably the music from psycho) can be heard playing over the top. A third seagull ducks in, yoinking the chip from beneath their feet. The gulls all freeze and look at one another. A wide angle shot. The third peeps and shoots off in a flail of loose feathers and chip grease. End.</em><br />
<br />
I grabbed Elisabeth and Dani, both hard working and enthusiastic, and proposed my idea which involved me acting it out a bit and they loved it. After some general discussion it was decided that Elisabeth, who has a great understanding for film language, would be head of story boarding, she, Dani and I would work on character design and I would do the animation with Dani providing the colour.<br />
<br />
Yes...it appears I'm directing again....<br />
...I still really like it...<br />
<br />
<br />
Little Hhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00788053275252239783noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2485330860967152466.post-40615100176034649442013-02-15T02:43:00.001-08:002013-02-18T02:26:24.574-08:00Proof...sort of...Ok so I said I was catching up on work....<br />
<br />
...so I'll need to blog about it ...<br />
<br />
Well I suppose to start I'll talk about the stuff I didn't loose in the first place and then the things I'm in the proses of completing.<br />
The post production work has forced me to use Nuke and actually I'm rather glad for it. I discovered I <em>really</em> like it. It's intuitive, logical, adaptive...basically it's damn nice. In the past I wouldn't have said the program was badly designed or that I didn't like it. I simply didn't put my self in a scenario where I would have to interact with it. I was an idiot for doing so.<br />
<br />
Anyway the two pieces I didn't loose were a colour correction job and a rotoscope piece. The colour correction I found simple as it is just a case of placing all the relevant nodes in the right order to get a desired outcome. Logic and problem solving.<br />
<div align="center">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhRQHE356sZNo0st3H2m9pomja4Kvoy5G8oGqhfVgWurarKvo9DMtD0ixKYq-3ZRC5tUwImwuTppVgBGrKzAqG02dE2lHDNJAjWPOEFWGWlhLzo9LHt342nY-rlLeNIygEqBEnv9JjH7aOV/s1600/vani.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="305" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhRQHE356sZNo0st3H2m9pomja4Kvoy5G8oGqhfVgWurarKvo9DMtD0ixKYq-3ZRC5tUwImwuTppVgBGrKzAqG02dE2lHDNJAjWPOEFWGWlhLzo9LHt342nY-rlLeNIygEqBEnv9JjH7aOV/s320/vani.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<em>Errr..these noes aren't in the right order...or even quite right...bad example...but you now know that Nuke looks pretty...</em></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<em></em> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Then there was the roto job. I was given a live action shot of a penguin and I had to rotoscope over his tummy. Again I had to set it up using the nodes, placing them in the right order and so forth, but the important bit is what I learnt from my interaction with it.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhGA7Bpmj5yXfV-zpLa9E-KMiCiUAsEwFLQitaD0ox3UXWRdZ-r2v9f2o2Rbkh15KB1ryeMASJQ8ojgLJRqX26j6bfcwp6ntwrooFXlEfCkAqclWMB-9mZnwFymJuOt5UiAOCrhMebigTZw/s1600/penguin1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="271" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhGA7Bpmj5yXfV-zpLa9E-KMiCiUAsEwFLQitaD0ox3UXWRdZ-r2v9f2o2Rbkh15KB1ryeMASJQ8ojgLJRqX26j6bfcwp6ntwrooFXlEfCkAqclWMB-9mZnwFymJuOt5UiAOCrhMebigTZw/s400/penguin1.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<em>Awesome little dude.</em></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I am a perfectionist, when I want to do well, and rotoscoping demands this. You have to be acutely observant so you are able to rotoscope an item perfectly from edge to edge and your final outcome must be highly convincing. (People should not be able to see that you have rotoscoped at all.) At this point, determined to stay atop of work and generally eager to do well I was a perfectionist. I started by key framing main points of deformation and then tweaked it by adding tweens and over time gradually applied more to streamline it. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The roto node on this program allows you to soften the edges. I decided, owing to the fact his stumpy legs and butt are darkened due to shadow, I would extend the edging that covered his lower regions more than I had the top and side edges with the intention to make the bottom fade into the natural shadow. I'm happy with it over all. It moves fluently and I think relatively convincingly but I think I will need to refine my technique regarding his lower half.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I'm pleased I've finally got to grips with this program. I want to be an animator, both traditionally and digitally, and I'm particularly interested in merging animation with live action. This a form of VFX. If I want to be employed and want to be good at this the more I know about post production within VFX and the more skills I have to apply the better.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

I had thee assignments to fulfil. The first was a 2500 word essay, complete with presentation. The second was a piece of flash animation with for some reason a <em>long</em> 1500 word evaluation to go with it. The last was a VFX show real.<br />
A lot to do but not difficult and manageable. Days before the big essay hand in I'd completed it and its presentation, so I handed it in. The flash animation was simple and some how I managed to force a large evaluation out of something with so limited a process and despite levels of over ambition, which resulted in me going into uni for several consecutive days, all early mornings to late evenings, I finished my show real. Oh and I was very ill too.<br />
<br />
Huzzah.<br />
<br />
Then night before hand in my memory stick drowned in my laundry. I thought I'd backed everything up. Nope.<br />
Here is what remains.<br />
<br />
My essay<br />
My flash animation<br />
Half my show real<br />
<br />
Now I have to recreate my evaluation and the second half of my show real. Ok I'm in the proses of redoing the last half of my show real and I can do this essay of an evaluation. Can't I? Right?<br />
<br />

Then handed it in this morning, on time. Did it. Yay!<br />
<br />
So anything else? I'm currently working on a VFX show real which is to be handed in at the end of the week. So far, on Nuke, I've rotoscoped a penguins tummy with the aim of changing its colour, of course, and appropriately layered and altered the colour of an animated short.<br />
<br />
At this point I was going to ramble about problems I encountered, how I overcame them and, blah, blah, blah...but for some reason I can't upload the pics to go with it so I'll do it next time.<br />
<br />
Anyway,remember Deep and the robots I was working on? Well some western style cartoon robots were chosen and I'm animating the effects instead but I don't mind too much. Its kinda nice doing a few explosions and fire, something I may not have done otherwise. I've done all the shots. I now just need someone to finish the last two so I can make some robot heads go boom.<br />
<br />

Over all it was about six hours work and almost all finished. The hardest part was creating a walk because it has large feet and a birdlike leg structure-it was a little awkward to decide how high the foot could lift. (<em>The answer was very looooowe with long strides-this really emphasised the weight though.</em>) <br />
<br />

<div align="left" class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Anyway I should really hand in my concept for this guy. My plan was to hand it in with some nice animations to it would look good but I believe the dedline is some time around now.</div>

I decided I was was feeling enthusiastic and that I <em>would</em> get some proper work done. It took the first hour to find ither a computer that worked or would run toonboom without asking for an adminastrative pasword. <em>Anyway</em> four hours later my animation was almost complete and then it stoped saving. I had been saving it to my memory stick so I assumed it was faulty any tried to save it to the computer's hard drive-it didn't work ither. I then discovered that almost all my work had disapeared.<br />
<br />
Meh.<br />
<br />
Redid the entire thing badly in about half an hour so I could use it as a blue print for the next day.<br />

I'm looking at creating some robots/drones (roughly human sized) with the capability of fire power. Its been a <em>loooong</em> time since I've last drawn any bots and I'm just realising ow much I've missed it. This is a brief post as I've only done a little so far. Plus once I've done more and probably changed it several times over I'll rant with more depth. Any way here is a sample.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjPnRSTFB9kgBseA6CgL1l54YXIjxBMWrRJeySlBCQ6Kb97uku_oGcqxw0EtptNjmdQPBIL60LqwgWOjpP-yeaurKlweA3bWGsfyUUI78HYhEExVd44VHAATibPeyZ5eyEf-7IHwkjUL4ON/s1600/robut1.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="335" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjPnRSTFB9kgBseA6CgL1l54YXIjxBMWrRJeySlBCQ6Kb97uku_oGcqxw0EtptNjmdQPBIL60LqwgWOjpP-yeaurKlweA3bWGsfyUUI78HYhEExVd44VHAATibPeyZ5eyEf-7IHwkjUL4ON/s400/robut1.png" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
There. I've gone with organic structures. Tacking into consideration this is for an anime I'm rather against using blocks, aggressive pointy bits and anything that may resemble the original transformers series from the 80s (<em>but I've watched the entire thing and I loved it</em>). Anyway the point I want to get to is that bots most frequently seen in anime are not like that. The are mostly composed of curves and usually have an over all organic silhouette.<br />
<br />
Thats me done fore now.<br />
<br />
<br />
Little Hhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00788053275252239783noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2485330860967152466.post-84748295927699283442012-10-23T06:47:00.000-07:002012-11-02T16:12:16.166-07:00So another project and a restartOk. As soon as I came back to uni I was ambushed by a third year, Omari, and his Final Major Project. The simplified basic concept: <span class="messageBody"><span class="userContent"><strong>Little Loud: The Animated Series is a about a good little girl with a big bad shadow.</strong></span></span><br />
<span class="messageBody"><span class="userContent"></span></span><br />
<span class="messageBody"><span class="userContent">The project is to be around three minuits long and we are doing one episode which is set predominently in the child's bedroom, at night. The advantage of this story is that it is simple making it easy to to tell within a short space of time and the single setting also means you don't bombard the adience with too much info within a short time frame. Its logical.</span></span><br />
<span class="messageBody"><span class="userContent">The characters are the girl and her shadow.</span></span><br />
<span class="messageBody"><span class="userContent"></span></span><br />
<span class="messageBody"><span class="userContent">My first task has been to work on character design. I noticed that his mood board was mostly comprised of gothic imagery, the majority was identifyably Tim Burton apeal so I asked if this was the visual vibe he was going for but this was not the case-it was mearly insparation for the shadow.</span></span><br />
<span class="messageBody"><span class="userContent">Anyway here are my first design ideas.</span></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Since the last meeting Omari had a better idea of what sort of style he want to go for but he likes the character so I've got to take these drawings and create the stylised variation. I've got some shadow concepts which I'll discus in a different blog so see yah.Little Hhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00788053275252239783noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2485330860967152466.post-83101506696099853322012-10-23T06:01:00.000-07:002012-10-23T06:01:13.881-07:00Still alive, I think...Ok it's obvious: I haven't been around for a while. Why? Long story short a lot of crap happened within a very short space of time and I allowed my self to be distracted. I lost sight of my plans, my enthusiasm and, apart from Project Cheese, I stopped attending uni.. I am greatly annoyed with my self-it took me a long time to decide what wanted to do with my future plus no one thought I'd ever make it to university, or college even. You get the gist.<br />
<br />
So what happened to Project Cheese? I was enjoying the entire project. It was going well, it was ahead of schedule, someone vital stopped coming to uni and gradually this caused the entire thing to loose that solidity. It did get completed. Hate how it turned out though. The compositor of my group reordered the shots as he saw fit (ignoring the animatic and notes I left for him.) He then proceeded to hand it in without informing me, despite the fact that I asked him to show me before hand so, as director I, could check it and perhaps work on making alterations.<br />
Usually, as a director, it would be my role to sit with the individual editing the shots together or at least watch a short edited sequence and give it the "all clear" so you can make sure that it is just right but if that person starts and finishes the edit without informing you then it is out of your hands.<br />
<br />
Perhaps I'm just blaming someone for <em><strong>my</strong></em> falier. Maybe this only happened because I was a bad director. I'm not looking for sympathy, I don't feel sorry for my self, I'm just disappointed.Little Hhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00788053275252239783noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2485330860967152466.post-15101150450619433032012-04-25T02:05:00.000-07:002012-04-25T02:05:14.115-07:00And the project continues...So several weeks back I began animating for Project Cheese.<br />
As much as I love traditional animation (also it would have looked lovely with the backgrounds) I decided to use Toon Boom. This was because it is a faster way of working, it is up to date with the animation industry and it also gives me practise with a graphics tablet.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
Anyway here is an example of Some animation in progress.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjH-F1iVpQV8RSYitVAU8K590J9W9hXq6KAb-A4mz1TJ2bA0maMUiQcDfBwLgDSBRJqAkqQpWPZTwh-atdWaFHenIewZ2ddOBWn7tV4tFWOdbs5Jg8XAlVOGAdklqYNkpXEU-56894U1-B8/s1600/hammer.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="361" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjH-F1iVpQV8RSYitVAU8K590J9W9hXq6KAb-A4mz1TJ2bA0maMUiQcDfBwLgDSBRJqAkqQpWPZTwh-atdWaFHenIewZ2ddOBWn7tV4tFWOdbs5Jg8XAlVOGAdklqYNkpXEU-56894U1-B8/s400/hammer.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
When I began animating with this program a few weeks back I had barley touched this program or a graphics tablet and when I first used one my work was comparable to a five-year-old's scribble but eventually I managed to create actual drawings. So far things have been running smoothly I animate and Perry colours them and tweaks any tiny glitches.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Now I'm just waiting for a couple more backgrounds so I can animate this mouse interacting with the background.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>Little Hhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00788053275252239783noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2485330860967152466.post-28971513201910185322011-12-08T04:11:00.000-08:002012-01-08T09:55:32.074-08:00And there's MoreOnce I had created what seemed to be a stable character design it then had to undergo animation tests. This is to see how far you can push the design, see just how much movement the design will allow while assessing the point at which it perhaps starts to loose shape. You may also find that certain actions just do not match the character's nature.<br />
On top of this you also need to asses whether it can convincingly carry off important actions that need to take place within the film. For example our mouse needed to say "yes," and "no." As his mouth was so long I was a little concerned I would not manage to make it work.<br />
<br />
<iframe allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/t-5XsT8cZW4?rel=0" width="420"></iframe><br />
<br />
The end result was very pleasing. I was able to make his mouth articulate yes and no with a defined difference. I then continued my test with a bit of <em>action and response</em> and a full <em>turnaround</em>.<br />
<br />
<iframe allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/sHCdJ939r34?rel=0" width="420"></iframe><br />
<br />
<iframe allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/xjWPsK6w_KU?rel=0" width="420"></iframe><br />
<br />
I was very pleased with the turnaround as I had never done once before and hadn't had any tutorials for it. It runs fluidly and demonstrates nicely that he can he takes to full angles nicely.<br />
<br />
Anyway whiles doing this I was directing the storyboarding and animatic. This is a "final" animatic (there is always a possibility that change could take place.)<br />
<br />
<iframe allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/uK2K-QFYGb0?rel=0" width="560"></iframe><br />
<br />
Tadaaaah!Little Hhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00788053275252239783noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2485330860967152466.post-76038392200630505552011-12-07T15:21:00.000-08:002011-12-07T15:22:09.019-08:00More on Project CheeseAh! Sooo busy!<br />
<br />
So what is the state of my project so far?<br />
Story boards-<em>done</em><br />
Background concepts and tests-<em>done</em><br />
Character concepts and designs-<em>done</em><br />
Test animations-<em>done</em><br />
Animatic-<em>done</em><br />
Pre-production bible-<em>done</em><br />
Me-<em><strong>exhausted</strong></em>.<br />
<br />
Ok, I think I'm gonna elaborate over stuff now. Character design. Creating the general look of the character was rather interesting. The distinctive style of cartoon I had gone for meant the design needed to be simple but with a very defined silhouette and lots of charisma. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiDzXqebQ9PVvPtCYZUrJN5OExpGlPE6AZn44wrKX93VUPtwcRXOjHeYPzUgZisW-0C3mhclh-V4H54PHCqG1Sjq1cMkyjSwtPf4wLkBU3Tmqjfw4Y3GAOyGOcZ_Welq2jm4xvv1AOVhBiP/s1600/m1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="145" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiDzXqebQ9PVvPtCYZUrJN5OExpGlPE6AZn44wrKX93VUPtwcRXOjHeYPzUgZisW-0C3mhclh-V4H54PHCqG1Sjq1cMkyjSwtPf4wLkBU3Tmqjfw4Y3GAOyGOcZ_Welq2jm4xvv1AOVhBiP/s320/m1.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div align="center">Here is an example of early experimentation</div><div align="center"><br />
</div><div align="center"><br />
</div><div align="center" class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhkUnh74B4edGbLnKl4FLE_O8eGrqbjJWju_5yusHQXQ2fosLH6RG5_yHdxLz-VW9bVNOKJmONWZ0xsrDqsTkXfOLX6yfGYr_AtSLmbuw15J-3l141cK4ZOODttcsf2koPzvXMFKpJx2iMy/s1600/m2.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="245" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhkUnh74B4edGbLnKl4FLE_O8eGrqbjJWju_5yusHQXQ2fosLH6RG5_yHdxLz-VW9bVNOKJmONWZ0xsrDqsTkXfOLX6yfGYr_AtSLmbuw15J-3l141cK4ZOODttcsf2koPzvXMFKpJx2iMy/s320/m2.png" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">I ended up with this. As this Little guy was so easily expressive I stuck with the design. One of the most important assets any design could have, with a character that says so little, is one that can portray emotion through facial expression and physicality.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEim7EuerE44fd-GTyZ4TQJfDTIVdssP9hB_EprFcX-gaL5nfv2U6FzZlQY5eUmylO8KHO5UF3Wdj7wW7UhvH83OGg0HyhH-QlEZFqMup3Yr1IbGFoVKuduqTJsaPjSEW1_ureX2IyuUJc6P/s1600/m3.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="204" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEim7EuerE44fd-GTyZ4TQJfDTIVdssP9hB_EprFcX-gaL5nfv2U6FzZlQY5eUmylO8KHO5UF3Wdj7wW7UhvH83OGg0HyhH-QlEZFqMup3Yr1IbGFoVKuduqTJsaPjSEW1_ureX2IyuUJc6P/s320/m3.png" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEice0lZC5cQogdlY1kPtCFXlgf9yWkjLnbPQ668x8NqR-c1pH887rkDLMboSn_Ua7FdOl3ZdjSzQNVkaY_m1-rfYJ8a1gPVU8Y3wU4VrT-9-J7_ZO5NT_rWBkGcuiZ58IfI1S-QDW9jfCAK/s1600/m+faces.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="246" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEice0lZC5cQogdlY1kPtCFXlgf9yWkjLnbPQ668x8NqR-c1pH887rkDLMboSn_Ua7FdOl3ZdjSzQNVkaY_m1-rfYJ8a1gPVU8Y3wU4VrT-9-J7_ZO5NT_rWBkGcuiZ58IfI1S-QDW9jfCAK/s320/m+faces.png" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">And here is a pretty final turnaround and set of expression tests just for the sake of it.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">So once that was sorted I moved onto colouration. Bellow I experimented with three sets of colour: brown, grey and white-colours most people imagine mice to be. The brown was far too dark and the grey seemed to merge with the general colour scheme making it less defined. The white was clear and crisp and added as a subtle hint to his techie nature-a white lab coat was in mind.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />

</div><div align="left" class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">The extra lines, used to separate the skin from fur, made the design all too complicated. The result was he looked lovely alone but became detached from the over all appeal of the cartoon. I liked it but it had to be cut.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Bellow you can see where I attempted to include flesh tones by just applying it to the tail (because it had a natural division line where it met his rear) but as the ears and nose were left white it looked unusual. In the end he was just white but I found it had a simple fresh appeal.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Anyway directing has been hard work but very enjoyable. I haven't really had the opportunity to implement an idea into film before so its been fantastic to finally do so. As well as character design I've been working on general concept design making sure that there is defined and cohesive imagery through out, story boarding with the group which involves many redrafts, building an animatic and hand drawn animation on the side.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">So, rambling over, this blog was kinda long so I'll save some more for another.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

We have a rough story board and we're in the process of replacing shots with completed backgrounds. This is the original story board without sound and moving shots so it makes very little sense but the second half is a little more interesting and easier to follow.<br />

Perry and I recorded the speech but I've discovered I was not able to upload the file type so once I've got that converted I'll upload them here.Little Hhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00788053275252239783noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2485330860967152466.post-48693988707406433182011-11-01T06:25:00.000-07:002011-11-04T15:46:27.069-07:00Project Cheese-Test animationSo over the weekend I've been hard at work hunched over my lighting box completing some animation tests and I've got to admit it was really nice getting back into it again. Drawing images of the same thing again and again and <em>again</em> with an attention span worthy of a nat and an impatient disposition should result in incessant boredom but some how I find all my thoughts slow down and I can concentrate.<br />
<br />
Anyway work resulted in a lighting box encampment: character sketches perched atop, completed images ever rising on my left, caffeine fuel at my knee, food an supplies to my right butt cheek and necessary pillows and blankets sort of drifting about. I didn't really ever leave.<br />
<br />
<div align="left" class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhiWG6-qWXVf1W7fXlo8q7PEiAa-w2G8-oumRMnxBxs3kvSRHZxsBdjfWfCOeO4yknYopg5TiI_xon4j83i-xqxvvjfgwlfOS6sRPmrQfWymVtaEMeh7U_GxH3FN3LPZGoBCCdt0VMf7_E1/s1600/133.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhiWG6-qWXVf1W7fXlo8q7PEiAa-w2G8-oumRMnxBxs3kvSRHZxsBdjfWfCOeO4yknYopg5TiI_xon4j83i-xqxvvjfgwlfOS6sRPmrQfWymVtaEMeh7U_GxH3FN3LPZGoBCCdt0VMf7_E1/s320/133.JPG" width="240" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Each of the animations, 24fps, vary between thirty to sixty frames depending on their nature. I did four animation tests. These were a run cycle, "yes, no" speech test, action and response head swivel and a general gesture and idiosyncrasy test. While I was uploading the completed work to my laptop my external hard drive (perhaps due to the delicate displacement of my elbow) decided its USB cable socket was going to become dislodged and fall into the hard drive itself. So this means I only have two pieces of animation to show and that there is currently no way of accessing any of the work I did last year...</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">...I <em>really</em> hope I can get it fixed.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><strong><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">So this is the action and response test.</span></strong></div><iframe allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/sHCdJ939r34?rel=0" width="420"></iframe><br />
This was the first animation I did. At the beginning I wanted to create expression using just the eyebrows but as I went on I found it easier to squash and stretch the goggles as I would if I were animating eyes.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: left;"><strong><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The second animation to survive the hard drive was the "yes, no" test.</span></strong></div><div align="center"></div><iframe allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/t-5XsT8cZW4?rel=0" width="420"></iframe><br />
I'm very please with this one mostly because I've never done speech with hand drawn animation and the test has proven to be very fluent. Another reason why I am pleased is kinda also because I didn't get a chance to run parts of the animation to see if I was doing it right until today. I didn't make any mistakes.<br />
Anyway the tests (including the two I could not show) prove the character design is ideal for animation and suits the traditional style well.Little Hhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00788053275252239783noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2485330860967152466.post-60411048614078505532011-10-31T03:08:00.000-07:002011-10-31T03:08:26.139-07:00Project Cheese-a delayed updateSo work on the project is running rather smoothly now. At the beginning I'll admit we were a bit behind but now we're bang on track.<br />
<br />
Anyway I thought I'd begin this post by rambling a bit about the idea. I'm not actually sure how it arose. I was just presented with the brief "yes, yes, yes, yes, no," and then, <span style="color: purple;"><strong><em>*PING!*</em></strong></span><span style="color: black;"> it just materialised in my brain: there was a mouse, he was stealing cheese from a podium with a mechanical hand, he was quivering with the kind of excitement that only a mouse charged on pure caffeine could do, "<em>yes, yes, yes, </em><span style="color: red;"><strong><em>YES!</em></strong></span></span><span style="color: red;">" </span><span style="color: black;">and the cheese was squished, "<em>NOOOOOOOOO!</em>" That's basically what happened.</span><br />
After a minute or two had passed the idea had evolved a little. The little film in my head was in the style of a Chuck Jones version of Tom and Jerry, which I enjoy too much...I may happen to have had a Chuck Jones' Tom and Jerry box set for a few years...<em>and</em> suddenly, perhaps with the nature of the cartoon in mind my idea became set in a cheese museum.<br />
<br />
Anyway I ended up as the director, which I'm actually <strong><em>really</em></strong> enjoying, animator and character designer. I have Brian working on concepts and backgrounds and Perry working on story board and sound. I think my self lucky as they're both doing a great job.<br />
<br />

The lecture was mostly about getting to grips with the interface (especially the storyboard tools).<br />
<br />
Toon Boom was designed to make the transfer from traditional media to technical media easier (also this makes it much easier to learn.) Plus it's capable of a large number of applications so looks its kinda evil.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgXd6h5jJG_57EyyHJPBJWI9pb6HQmAY0wDn6FycX0OwC9GwNWkx0SJxdvpjkG9QUNBS-m9Jfr2-_Oj6LeA_cZ6O-p5Clv2yrM7YgWX9L7zmUjnwjUCM-axucqaG8RN2RO80jdI4RzpBl-s/s1600/tb1.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="250" ida="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgXd6h5jJG_57EyyHJPBJWI9pb6HQmAY0wDn6FycX0OwC9GwNWkx0SJxdvpjkG9QUNBS-m9Jfr2-_Oj6LeA_cZ6O-p5Clv2yrM7YgWX9L7zmUjnwjUCM-axucqaG8RN2RO80jdI4RzpBl-s/s400/tb1.png" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><em>Sooo many tabs!</em></div><div align="left" class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">It is capable of storyboarding, full animatics which encapsulates the use of time lines, the ability to apply sound, drawing tools and the application of cameras. Today I learned different ways to render in Maya for the perpose of creating separate layers. For example a colour layer or a shadow layer and there are many, many others.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">Here was the origonal simple scene rendered.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhKQsSH2AUP5eu5EdRd4dwGkjBG2ssBkXDNJfT0s0NYnhtxMnyaeCuqPiPIY3pqUIV-9ZZPKva3U75QrVLudEMf18QrtH6soeBYib5Gf-PjRBrRdZXD6xZ6kB0LX4EbW1RjonQlZUrSuCNN/s1600/ren.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" rda="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhKQsSH2AUP5eu5EdRd4dwGkjBG2ssBkXDNJfT0s0NYnhtxMnyaeCuqPiPIY3pqUIV-9ZZPKva3U75QrVLudEMf18QrtH6soeBYib5Gf-PjRBrRdZXD6xZ6kB0LX4EbW1RjonQlZUrSuCNN/s320/ren.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<br />
<div align="center">And bellow are some other render types.</div><div align="center"><br />
</div><div align="center"><br />

</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;">Anyway there are some examples. Tadah! End.<em></em></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div>Little Hhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00788053275252239783noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2485330860967152466.post-4428535722522326052011-10-20T03:25:00.000-07:002011-12-12T04:31:54.219-08:00Project CheeseSo the scenario is we've all been split into groups to create a short piece of animation. The brief is to realise a script with the words, "yes, yes, yes, yes, no," and it can't exceed ninety seconds and must not be any shorter than thirty.<br />
<br />
Currently we have the first full term to create an animatic. Anyway with this brief in mind I came up with the concept of a high tech mouse attempting to pull off a heist of which he attempts to steal a highly expensive piece of cheese from a specialist cheese museum and goes like this...<br />
<em>The scene opens late at night, raining. You see the silhouette of a huge building. Lightning flashes dramatically. It highlights a sign. "Cheese Museum." Next you're confronted by a piece of cheese in a glass case, surrounded by lasers. The shot fades to look like that of a cheep flickering TV screen. Then a silhouette slides into view before it. "Yesss." A mouse with techy goggles leans over the screen an moves some leavers. Back in the room with the cheese a mechanical hand lowers from the ceiling and misses the cheese. Close up on the mouse's paws as he adjusts the leavers. Back with the cheese again the arm moves across a little, lowers and grabs the cheese. It ascends towards the ceiling. The mouse leans closer to the screen, "yes," we see the screen over his shoulder, "yes, YES," The hand squishes the cheese. The mouse is still. He twitches. "NOOOOOOOO!"</em><br />
<br />
Anyway that's my idea. Here are a few character concept sketches I created. They are subject to change. There were two things I knew when I started and that was I wanted this mouse to look nothing like Micky Mouse and the other was I didn't want this character to look fluffy or humanoid. Sometimes the best elements of a character can be found by exaggerating elements of the animal itself. <br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">For example when I saw these images I thought big head, round body, huge eyes, stumpy legs.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjKrrPhRLesCS4Uw-wqldsDT434iQ4oXlxTHwpVgSTv4RXTJlJQ17vxXOMLPWh4hs74MbYvKmej4HcIlbOsi_5fAVZgZN_wwlydwZRrHzY2RrOArfg7WtJJ_tiJxTKH7rFRheA2HN7t47IF/s1600/m5.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="139" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjKrrPhRLesCS4Uw-wqldsDT434iQ4oXlxTHwpVgSTv4RXTJlJQ17vxXOMLPWh4hs74MbYvKmej4HcIlbOsi_5fAVZgZN_wwlydwZRrHzY2RrOArfg7WtJJ_tiJxTKH7rFRheA2HN7t47IF/s320/m5.png" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />

This is when you build bones or joints for a character or object which will later be used to animate them. In effect its a little like putting strings on a puppet.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">This here is a chain of bones.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjhezI6V5RkTU3qkOdOdVzo_O1RMbL5mDwTTz5JG_bweEbUkvyKzfwZz_o4BO9RTTlYPDqo8-S3bQr73-pIyRXh0rrW8nAstGTJ5Ly-9fIWLWq4enLw_j3z_S2SxTbf3_9mB3eRLn8lqPfH/s1600/ps+1.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="277" oda="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjhezI6V5RkTU3qkOdOdVzo_O1RMbL5mDwTTz5JG_bweEbUkvyKzfwZz_o4BO9RTTlYPDqo8-S3bQr73-pIyRXh0rrW8nAstGTJ5Ly-9fIWLWq4enLw_j3z_S2SxTbf3_9mB3eRLn8lqPfH/s400/ps+1.png" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Creating the bones them selves was relatively simple (and I didn't fall behind. <em>Phweeew!</em> ) The next part of the lecture was spent adding the motor controls to the joints. The first enabled me to grab one end and when pulled the rest would follow and flex accordingly. The second meant that and animator could grab the central point and make the structure pivot let and right.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhcIxf3SkzvC3ZOZ-sft9YZAQ5mMJpjHmjnZmvkYJV_p1OSIASbBgzBtKtLzEZBTrjUqB9ia_yCuumPLbSB0pvd1s84RjM95lHrX6j_niolu4ODPFU9KS11wZdSh2nw0vQ5bB_-b-fxa6mD/s1600/ps2.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="260" oda="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhcIxf3SkzvC3ZOZ-sft9YZAQ5mMJpjHmjnZmvkYJV_p1OSIASbBgzBtKtLzEZBTrjUqB9ia_yCuumPLbSB0pvd1s84RjM95lHrX6j_niolu4ODPFU9KS11wZdSh2nw0vQ5bB_-b-fxa6mD/s320/ps2.png" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhIe7_o7_YHE0BG0KHlAm2a_1ez6EUPe3D6IodNj0rzBg0yQF5YqqpRrS_Q_qlnuUuQfyJZ2WjeHx3v3WGnKj57cjDIM2wZvagESIFxT9N-i-LKU_mCN_O1b2_HX4xDya5GxOWy_jzKQ6L_/s1600/ps3.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="137" oda="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhIe7_o7_YHE0BG0KHlAm2a_1ez6EUPe3D6IodNj0rzBg0yQF5YqqpRrS_Q_qlnuUuQfyJZ2WjeHx3v3WGnKj57cjDIM2wZvagESIFxT9N-i-LKU_mCN_O1b2_HX4xDya5GxOWy_jzKQ6L_/s320/ps3.png" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<br />
Anyway I added pictures so my blog is a little more interesting to look at...probably still a little boring though...<br />
<br />
Oh and Dell wiped my laptop clean. All is lost...<br />
<div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div>Little Hhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00788053275252239783noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2485330860967152466.post-280099138898099472011-10-11T02:52:00.000-07:002011-10-11T02:52:21.162-07:00NukeSo I decided I would take the post production side of my course to keep up to date with special effects technology (<em>and to also keep up with animation</em>) but I'll continue to practice drawing and the like in my own time. Boom baby!<br />
<br />
Anyway yesterday I was confronted with a program called Nuke. It's like a more advance After Effects (<em>and has a very similar visual interface</em>) but it can keep up with you essentially. Anyway the lecture was about layering. We were presented with a piece of footage of an adorable little girl adorned with a pretty baby blue frock and blond pig tales perched on a hill who promptly whipped out a huge bazooka-like-lazer-alien-gun-thing and fired it across the landscape. Upon opening the file on Nuke it came out in separate layers such as a distant hill, the hill in the foreground and the girl. There were more but you get the idea.<br />
Basically that lecture i leaned that these layers could essentially be "plugged in" to on another. I struggled with it at first but eventually got the idea. In the proses of getting lost and catching up I managed to accidentally pick up a couple more skills. Next time I should print screen some of my work so this can make more sense...and perhaps to make my blog look prettier.Little Hhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00788053275252239783noreply@blogger.com0
